Elias Mamalakis was born in Athens. He studied economics and worked as a high-rank executive in multinational companies for a number of years.

Having done a range of things, he decided, in his forties, to go into gastronomy.

 

  • Up to now he’s written eleven (11) books (including a novel), mainly on cooking and good living, and he’s also produced a CD featuring recipes and children’s stories.
  • In April 2007 he became editor in chief of BBC Olive’s magazine Greek edition.
  • Since November 2009 he is editor in chief of “Lichoudies” (Gourmet), a publication of the weekly newspaper “O Kosmos tou Ependyti” (Investor’s World).
  • He is in charge of the culinary pages of ELLE magazine’s Greek edition.
  • For three years he hosted Mega Channel’s “Stin Kouzina Olotachos” (Race to the Kitchen), a TV game show.
  • He was chief editor and host of Mega Channel’s TV show “Boukia kai Sychorio” (loosely translated into: Yummy in the Tummy)
  • For the last two years he’s been hosting a public television documentary series (ET3 Channel) on Greek History. In Season 1 he dealt with the pre-revolutionary period and the life of hero Katsantonis, while this year the series features the life of Theodoros Kolokotronis.
  • He took part in the staging of “I Pentanostimi” (The Delicious Girl), directed by Tatiana Lygari in the Treno sto Rouf theatre.
  • He has designed a series of six (6) different chocolates for “Fresh” patisserie chain, including one with green tea and another with salt.
  • He continues to work as a taste consultant in the food industry.
  • He is a founding member of Stavros Theodorakis’ site Protagon.gr, where he writes on anything but cooking.
  • He has hosted seminars on Greek cheeses, ancient Greek cuisine, the Mediterranean diet and other related topics.
