MANOLIS SORMAINIS

Born in Athens, he studied at the Laiko Piramatiko Theatro (People’s Experimental Theatre) Drama School with L. Trivizas, L. Voyatzis, G. Michalakopoulos, E. Kotamanidou, Loula Anagnostaki, E. Pita, N. Papaconstantinou.

He has played many roles in the classical and modern repertoire including the works of most contemporary Greek and foreign playwrights, as well as ancient drama.

He has worked with the Greek National Theatre, the State Theatre of Northern Greece, the Laiko Piramatiko Theatro, with most municipal theatres and with most Athenian theatre companies.

His most significant roles include: Stanislav Stratiev’s The Suede Jacket (Clerk), Nazim Hikmet’s Ivan Ivanovich (Ivan Ivanovich), Goldoni’s Moliere (Moliere), Moliere’s The Doctor In Spite of Himself (Doctor) and The Miser (Arpagone), Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night (Malvolio) and Much Ado About Nothing (Dogberry), Aristophanes’s Wealth (Klepsiphron), Harald Mueller’s Totenfloss (Checker), Chekhov’s Seagull (Medvedenko), D. Vyzantios’s Vavilonia (The Din of Babel – Policeman) G. Dialegmenos’s Mana, Mitera, Mama (Mother, Mom, Mama – Sotirakis), K. Mourselas’s Maheri sto Kokalo (Knife in the Bone –Leonidas), M. Tsikliropoulos’s Oh, ta Nefra mou (Oh, my Kidneys –Mitsaras), M. Kores’s Epikindino Pehnidi (Dangerous Game – Nikos), M. Since March 2008, he has been taking part in Filosofia sti Skini (Philosophy on Stage), a co-production of the University of Athens and Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall, playing in three plays by Th. Pelegrinis –Descartes, Hume, Cant– and directing a fourth one, Schopenhauer. All four plays were staged in the Nikos Skalkotas Hall, being part of the Megaron Plus programme.
