Born in Athens, she studied piano and solo singing at the Hellenic Conservatory and the Kodaly Conservatory, receiving her diploma graded "Excellent Unanimously", and also Theory of Music (Harmony diploma, also graded "Excellent Unanimously").
She attended O. Szabo's piano seminar at the Kodaly Institute in Hungary, N. Shetler's seminar on Lied Song at the Mozarteum Academy in Saltzburg, A. Kondogeorgiou's seminar on choir music and took Conducting lessons
(R. Pilarinos's class).
She has performed as soloist with the ERT (Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation) Music Ensembles, with the Orchestra of Contemporary Music (Special Concert for M. Theodorakis), the National Symphony Orchestra (tenor A. Bocelli's concert in Herod Theatre) and with the Choir.
She took part in the recording of the soundtrack for N. Perakis's film Thiliki Eteria (Women Co.), in the recording of N. Mamangakis's work Mikro Epos gia ton Andrea Rodino (Short Epic For Andreas Rodinos), as well as in various other recordings.
She has participated in many concerts, both in and outside Greece (U.S.A., France, Turkey, Cyprus).
Despina Stefanidou has also accompanied singers of modern art Greek songs, (Aliki Kayaloglou, Savina Gianatou, Vassilis Lekas, Ilias Lioungos et al.), in concerts and state TV shows.
She has joined small music ensembles performing works by contemporary composers (Th. Andoniou, K. Sfetsas, M. Eychenne et al.).
