MARIANNA STRAPATSAKI
Video Art


She was born, lives and works in Athens. A painter and a video artist, she studied Interior Deroration under scholarship at Athens Technological Institute (Α.Τ.Ι., Doxiadis School). After winning a scholarship from the Academy of Athens, she continued her studies in Paris; Painting and Drawing at Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts, Art History at Ecole du Louvre and Plastic Arts at Paris I Sorbonne.

Since 2004, she serves as Associate Professor at Ionian University, Department of Audio and Visual Arts. In 2005 she was Invited Professor in the Athens School of Fine Arts and since 1981 she is Artistic Director for Arheologia ke Tehnes (Archeology and Arts) magazine published by Lambrakis Press S.A.

Mariana Strapatsaki was one of the first Greek artists to create video art, starting in 1985. She has had thirty personal exhibitions in Greece, France, England, Germany, Italy, Turkey and Chile, and has taken part in another fifty-two group exhibitions in Greece, France, Germany, Holland, Spain and England.

She has been awarded for her art mediated interventions in railway stations in Athens and she has served as member of many art juries.

Her works are exhibited at the Ministry of Culture, at the National Gallery, at Vassilis and Elisa Goulandris Museum of Modern Art, at the Municipal Gallery of Rhodes, at the Rethymnon Centre for Contemporary Art, at the Municipality of Rhodes, at the Byzantine Museum of Thessaloniki, at the Macedonian Contemporary Art Museum, At the Gallery of Vianos village in Crete, at the Gallery of Syros Island and in private collections in Greece, France, Germany, Austria and the U.S.A.
