6th Young Artists’ Festival “The 12 Coupés”

daily from the 27th of May to the 5th of June

The successful and unique in the world railway cultural Young Artists’ Festival “The 12 Coupés”, inspired and instituted by Tatiana Ligari, aiming to promote local young artistic forces, opens its gates for the 6th consecutive year, on Friday the 27th of May and up to the 5th of June 2016.

This year, the festival hosts in total 18 groups of young actors, dancers, visual artists, performers,

directors, choreographers, musicians, video artists etc., who become inspired by the authentic, vintage 12 coupés of the New Wagon, create and present avant garde projects of short duration for small groups of spectators, on a daily basis, for 10 consecutive days.

Tatiana Ligari, its artistic director, points out: “It’s interesting, that each year, depending on the incoming project proposals, the festival orientation turns to a different art form. So, this year, beside theatrical and dance performances, we make an homage to visual arts, hosting photo exhibitions, installations and video art. Moreover, some of the participants are not based in Athens, a fact which gives the festival a wider penetration and effectiveness. It is a polymorphic festival inside an unexpected venue, which instigates inspiration, offering a podium for expression and creation to dozens of young artists and groups. Despite not offering a particular award, it consists an important starting point for new cooperations with the Train – Theater on a professional basis”.

The 12 private compartments, the 12 “coupés”, of the New Wagon, are the core of the festival. Since 2010, inside these few square meters, 97 young artists’ groups but also single artists from every art form have presented their work and showcased original and imaginative projects, offering spectators a unique experience of private viewing.

The innovative artistic projects spread across the rest of the train’s wagons, as well as the platform (Apovathra), offering visitors daily, for an ongoing decameron, a joyous and creative Arts fest.
